Nintendo Switch Console

The Switch is Nintendo’s long awaited console that was advertised as being up to par with the Xbox One and Playstation 4. Did the system live up to its huge hype, however? The answer to that depends solely on who you ask. Specification wise, the Switch still has larger shoes to fill when it comes to its Sony and Microsoft competitors. On the Nintendo Switch, the video displays in 720p on its handheld screen and 1080p when actually connected to the television set. The base memory is a mere 32 gigs, but is expandable. 1080p is of course HD, but Sony and Microsoft have released the Xbox One S and Playstation 4 Pro that can be displayed in 4k if your television is compatible. So, in that regards the Nintendo Switch is still lacking. There is a redeeming factor though that is very important: the price of the system. The system itself starts at $300 plus tax. Three hundred dollars compared to upwards of five and six hundred dollars is definitely a plus. Another huge factor to consider when thinking about what console to purchase is the mobility of the Nintendo Switch. As advertised, the Switch gamepad can actually be taken off its docking station and carried around and played as though it were a fully handheld console. This mobility allows for more exposure in more areas of clientele and various age groups. There is a launch title called “1-2 Switch” that is available. This game fully encompasses what the mobility was aimed towards: multiplayer mini-games. It’s almost comparable to the ever so popular “Wii Sports.” For myself, personally, a huge deal breaker involved the exclusives the console has/will have to offer. Such as, you probably guessed it, Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  If there is one category of games Nintendo has proven to be experts in, it’s puzzle RPG’s. Zelda being just that. Unlike other games in its franchise however, Breath of the Wild is an immersive free roam RPG that still has the puzzle elements that fans of the series love. However, the title is also offered for Wii U if players do not want to purchase an entire console for one game. The popular video game stores sell all the latest versions of NES Nintendo Console. Overall, the Nintendo Switch has pros and cons like any other system but are quite popular among the people, who love to play video games.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Pros: Affordability, Mobility, Exclusive titles

Cons: Not as beefy as its rivals, the screen display is rather large and easily breakable, no pushing of the envelope game wise

NES classic edition

Gobble Gobble fellow gamers, it is almost thanksgiving here at Play and Talk and we could not be more excited to spend the holidays with our families. Unless you have been living under a rock for the past year, you know that on 11/11 of the great year of 2016 the NES classic edition has been released. The NES classic edition is a miniature version the Nintendo entertainment system preloaded with 30 great games all run through beautiful HDMI. The only issue is those greedy bastards at Nintendo are hoarding the NES classics for themselves refusing to let anyone come into their troll cave to play their system. For those of you who were lucky enough to get one, you are blessed with some of the best games Nintendo has ever put out such as mike tyson’s punch out, Mario and ninja gaiden. If you were not able to secure one you will have plenty of chances in the future when Nintendo re supplies the stores for Christmas. This is how we know the Illuminati is alive and well and they made beetlejuice.

In honor of October and all of its “spooky goodness,” a review of a not-so-scary classic game is in order. That game is Luigi’s Mansion. Luigi’s Mansion has two titles under the franchise’s belt. This review will focus on the better of the two: for Nintendo Gamecube. This title was released on September 14, 2001 and was received extremely well with an overall rating of 7/10 from IGN.

Now, for the overview. As most Mario games, someone has gone missing/been kidnapped. This time, however, it is not Princess Peach; it’s Mario! It’s up to Luigi to find and rescue him. Upon entering the mansion, it is easy to tell that there is something… Amiss about it.Luigi encounters Professor Elvin Gadd, a quirky scientist who tells Luigi of the misfortune that has befallen Mario. The same misfortune coats the mansion in a legion of Boo’s. Equipped with the Poltergust (harhar) 3000, Luigi sets out to capture ghosts and transfer them back into their paintings while also searching for his brother. Throughout the game, the player encounters “boss” entities that require strategy and attacks that are not the run of the mill ones used to capture regular Boo’s. One boss, for example, is a baby. That’s right, a literal baby. His name is Chauncey and he is equipped with bib, rattle, and of course a onesy. Don’t let his innocent demeanor fool you, though. When you try capturing him, let’s just say things get a little… One sided. Be sure to pay attention to your surroundings and the weapons this fearsome baby wields. While playing, players are also getting “graded” on their performance with the boss ghosts. Also, when collecting items, the player should try and collect as much money as possible. The amount of money, jewels, and gold you collect has an effect on which mansion Luigi is rewarded with at the end of the game. Doesn’t a guy who has been shadowed in every other game deserve something nice for once? Help him out!

In this pleasant month of October, with the advent of the fall season, we, at Play and Talk, are very excited for what has come into the world of computer and video gaming.

Yesterday, on the thirteenth of October, in the lord’s year of two thousand and sixteen, we have welcomed the arrival of the PlayStation Virtual Reality apparatus.

Have you ever wanted to go to a Hatsune Miku concert without your dad waiting at home to beat the ever living stuffing out of you? Or maybe you just want to be Batman or someone who makes enough money to eat more than Ramen Noodles every night? Well now you can and its more real than it ever has been. We at Play and Talk were able to test out the VR and here what we did.

The first thing we all did was Hatsune Miku, then we watched her concert haha alright. It was ok, just a bunch of other people jumping around  watching a cartoon sing about stuff, 10/10 would do it again. After that we tried Batman VR was like being a bat and a man at the same time,  it wasn’t as exciting and made me feel like a just brushed my teeth with icy hot. After trhat we decided to give up and go get some churros.

The Churros were great, they were by far the best part of the day and I would recommend them to anyone regardless of their social class.

When most people see that their disc is scratched and not working, they quickly run out to buy another copy. However, that can be very expensive with games now costing upwards of sixty dollars. Well, there is a cheap and effective alternative now! That alternative is using a disc repair machine. Disc repair machines come in various shapes and sizes. Some hold only one disc while others can hold up to fifty. The one that we trust at our store locations are Research Technology International’s Eco-Auto Smart machine or RTI: EAS for short. The machine holds one disc at a time. There are cleaning pads that are attached to the inside of the machine that are color coded to a numbering system of one through five. Each number is associated with the level of scratch severity. One (blue) is associated with discs that only have fingerprints or light smudges. Two (yellow) is used for very light scratches. Three (green) is for moderately scratched discs. Four (red) is for discs that have heavy scratches. Finally, the five (lighter blue) pad is used for discs that have very deep scratches or laser burns. The machine is made to clean DVD and game discs. It can, however, also clean blu-ray discs. For blu-ray there is a special purple pad that must be placed in the machine. Blu-ray discs have a lower chance of repair, so our staff usually suggests replacing them in the end. The machine itself operates by using a water filtration system that funnels the run-off through a hose. A special compound is put into the water. Also, there is a liquid cleaner that the machine needs to polish the disc during the “one” phase. Overall, this model of disc repair machine is top of the line and offers the utmost satisfaction. And, at only $4-$6 per disc cleaning, how could you refuse?

Banjo and Kazooie

The Nintendo 64 brought about an evolution to the gaming world.  Before the N64, most games were two-dimensional side-scrollers or Isometric top-down perspectives.  Few companies were able to dominate the market like Rare, producer of various big Titles such as Donkey Kong Country, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, and a personal favorite, Banjo and Kazooie. Banjo and Kazooie is a 3-D platformer developed by Rare that came out in November of 2001, it’s protagonist is the Bear Banjo, who is assisted by his side-kick the Bird Kazooie. Together they must stop the evil witch Gruntilda from using her Machine to suck the life from the world.  I have played a multitude of video games in my life, few have been able to make the impression that this game has on me.  While the storyline isn’t winning any awards, the game more than makes up for it by being an amazingly fun 3-D platformer.  The level designs in both Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie are phenomenal. The trend with gaming today is to make these enormous worlds that are just so massive that there ends up being a lot of places that just end up being empty space, not Banjo and Kazooie. Nearly every area the player explores, they are rewarded with something to show for it such as one of several collectibles or even character upgrades such as new moves or new eggs for Kazooie to shoot.  The soundtrack for the game is a masterpiece in itself, each world has it’s own unique and catchy tune which changes as you explore the level; going underwater causes the track to drag on and muffle, making it sounds like the player is actually underwater. In conclusion, the Banjo Kazooie series is a wonderful collection of games with a lot of potential for exploration and just a generally pleasant experience.

Summer is approaching fast and with that you are going to need plenty of games to keep you indoors on those hot, rainy and humid Alabama days.

Here is the official Play and Talk list of games you should play while you are stuck inside during the summer.

My personal favorite game to play during the summer is Bully for the PS2 or any of its ports (Nintendi wii or Xbox 360). This game will take you back to school while you are off, only this time you can actually fight the teachers and kids who try to mess with you instead of just cowering in a corner .Need for Speed Underground is another great game to play during the summer. Raising a car with friends is like raising a child but it doesn’t ruin your life. Left 4 dead on the Xbox 360  is the perfect way to spend nights up late with the squad.

It requires you to work together to fight zombies and survive to the bitter end. The ultimate summer game you can possibly play is Katamari Damacy for the PS2 or any of its sequels. Rolling around the Earth and listening to J pop is the best summer possible. So if you like this list comes into our store and buys stuff.

It is March of 2016 here at Play and Talk and it is crazy to us just how far this store has come and just how many rare and valuable games have walked through our doors. Last week we received the largest trade in that has ever walked through the doors of our business establishment that is knows as Play and Talk.

Panzer Dragoon Saga

This trade in consisted of some of the rarest Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 video games out there on the market. Along with games for the Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 video games we also received games for the sega saturn and sega dreamcast video game consoles. Many of the Playstation games that were brought in were made by the great Working Designed video game company known for localizing many important JRPGS such as Lunar the silver star, Lunar Eternal Blue, Alundra and Vanguard Bandits. The biggest banger that came with this collection was the legendary Panzer Dragoon Saga.

In the 2 years that this store has been opened, never did we think we would get in a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga in the near mint condition that it was brought into us. We hope many more trade ins close to this one will come in to help us bring video gaming to our community.
